Mission Statement

New Horizons Credit Union is owned by its membership and exists to provide, in a friendly atmosphere, high quality financial services at favorable terms to the members while maintaining the long term financial stability of the credit union.

History

New Horizons Credit Union was chartered as Lazarus Associates Credit Union under the laws of the State of Ohio on May 7, 1934 to serve the associates of the F&R Lazarus Company.

Several mergers over the years have brought the credit union to where it is today. On January 31, 1983 the Shillito Associates Credit Union merged with Rikes Credit Union after Federated Department Stores combined the operations of the respective stores. The most significant of these mergers occured in March 1989 when the LAZ/FED(formerly Shillito/Rikes) Associates Credit Union was merged with the Lazarus Associates Credit Union, doubling the size of the credit union. The most recent merger occured January 1, 2001, when the Goldsmith Employee Credit Union was merged with NHCU.

In April 1996 Lazarus Associates Credit Union changed its name to New Horizons Credit Union, Inc.  In June 1997 the main office moved to its own space in downtown Cincinnati.

In 1999 the credit union opened membership to select employee groups.  These are companies that choose to offer credit union membership to their employees.

Today we have six offices in two states and nationwide access through the Shared Branch Network.  Because membership may be continued after a person leaves the employment of the sponsor group, we serve members all across the United States.

Who Can Join?

Member Guidelines

Membership in New Horizons Credit Union is like joining an exclusive club...only people who share a common bond of membership are eligible to join.  At New Horizons Credit Union, this means you must be an active or retired employee of any operating division of Macy's, Inc. (formerly Federated Department Stores, Inc.) or one of our approved select employee groups (SEGs) to be eligible for Credit Union membership.

Once you join, the members of your family may also become Credit Union members.  This includes relatives by blood, adoption, or marriage. It is also open to partners living in the household with someone who meets the eligibility requirements.

Perhaps best of all, once you become a member of New Horizons Credit Union, you may remain a member for life.  Even if you change employers, your Credit Union membership will stay intact.  It's a policy we call "Once a Member, Always A Member", and it assures you a lifetime of Credit Union service, no matter where you may live or work in the future!

Once you become part of our Credit Union family, you'll soon learn that we're different from most other financial institutions.  We're an organization where people are more important that profits.  As a non-profit financial cooperative, we offer the best in financial services, but with better rates and lower fees than you'll find almost anywhere.   Indeed, the Credit Union philosophy of "People Helping People" is our guiding principal.
